The Goddess Joey and the Arias company were able to celebrate our final show and ring in the New Year at the quintessential New York icon, the fabulous Indochine. Thank you to Jean Marc, his partner and entire staff they are amazing and we could not imagine having been anywhere else, it felt like home- much love to everyone! Pictured with Vine and Arias, Lynne Twist, the beautiful, beneficent, vivacous- grand dame of the Twist clan joined us again in New York last nite for her second visit to the show. She has been in ecuador for a year, now returning to San Francisco- the most divine city on earth. We love San Francisco and are happy because Lynne can come back again and again to the show now that she is state side, she has to catch up with Sherry who has been to the show at least half a dozen times- we love her too.

She and Twist are mutual pals of the fabulous Mr. David in San Francisco, who has created amazing puppet couture for many of Twist's original productions over the years. Backstage after the show, Fauxnique and three very cute boys pay homage to the goddess, Ms. Arias.

Big Top Joey

The totally magical Danny Elfman and his guest Jennifer came to visit Joey last week. Danny and Joey last worked together on Big Top Pee Wee, where Joey was the incredible "Shim", the half man, half woman! Danny is a long standing puppet fan, having composed the music for Erik Sanko's marionette play, "The Fortune Teller" in the Dorothy B. Williams Theatre, which was a hit two seasons ago presented by our Dream Music Puppetry Program. Great to see you Danny and Jennifer!

Aunt Wendy

The gorgeous Wendy Sadler, one of Dorothy's daughters flew into New York for the second time to see Arias and of course her favorite nephew Basil. She is one of the hippest ladies you could ever want to meet and a rad yoga teacher as well. She is amazing! Come back Wendy and bring the rest of the Chicago contingency with you!! You and Arias make a gorgeous couple. Project Runway's Austin Scarlett and entourage made their way to HERE last week to check out Thierry Mughler's latest concept for Arias, designed by fellow "Runway" Alum Chris March. King of sportswear judge Michael Kors was by a few weeks ago and busted a few seams throughout the evening, having been thoroughly entertained by Arias' antics. Our show should be a must see for all Runway-ers both old and new. Come one, come all Joey's corsette is not to be missed.

Joey thinks Basil needs to get back to New York immediately! Pickups (trucks) and Hay? Basil is actually in Fort Worth lending a hand to Hip Pocket Theatre's under the stars production of The Island of Dr. Moreau. Basil your goddess Joey demands you get back to him and the family as soon as possible.

Breuer meets Arias

It was bound to happen eventually; maverick theatre outlaw Lee Breuer would meet face to face with Ms. Arias and future generations of theatre goers will never be the same. It boggles the mind to imagine what Twist, Arias and Breuer might conjure together. Lee and Basil travel to France together in a few weeks to meet with The Comedie Francaise regarding a new project, will Arias be their new leading lady?

Jerry Mitchell is becoming one of our biggest fans, bringing back with him this time quite a handsome group of Broadway legends including Jack O'Brien and David Rockwell. The goddess had them eating out of her.....hands. Watch out Bailey Hanks! We truly love you Jerry, keep coming back!

The very lovely Laura Linney, another New York native that we LOVE, accompanied Chris and Anne Sadler (Dorothy's Grandchildren as previously mentioned!) on Friday nite to visit Joey and Basil at HERE.

Dorothy and Griff

This is Chris Sadler on the right, one of Dorothy B. Williams many gorgeous grandchildren. He came with his wife Anne, to visit Arias- also to celebrate the 10th Anniversary of the opening of the Dorothy B. Williams Theatre. Dorothy was Basil's beloved grandmother, and wife to Griff Williams. Griff was a big band leader, and his string puppets, that were created for his orchestra in 1933 by Theodore Mack of Chicago, are currently playing in Arias with a Twist.

The gorgeous and charismatic Marisa Tomei dropped by the see Joey and Basil last night. This real New Yorker is one of our favorite downtown staples. These three are local treasures and I am so glad they all call New York their home.

Wow this is it.... 

the New York Press said of Basil: "there can no longer be any question that Twist is far and away the greatest creator of performing objects-puppets-working today."  I hope he doesn't let all the glory go to his head!  But i'm not afraid of that.  Working with puppets ain't all glory.  So much spray adhesive you can't move your fingers, more spandex than that little old sewing machine can handle.  And don't forget all those gosh darn tech rehearsals.  The curtains, the alien eye lights, the anal probe. again! *crack* again!  But it really paid off.  Check out the press.  and congratulations to Joey and Basil and the puppet gang.

Olga

Here is Olga from Russia an aerialist who worked with Joey in ZUMANITY till her near fatal accident that almost left her crippled for life. But Olga is such a survivor that she came back stronger and more beautiful. She is blessed. She flew in to celebrate the opening Night of Arias with a Twist with Mr. Mugler. Still going thru therapy she is finding herself getting ready to suprise us with a new life and maybe back on stage! Pictured with Arias and Twist opening Night.

June 14th was opening night for Arias with a Twist, and it was a magical night where glamour really was re-born in downtown New York. Here are many elegant super vip's.

Our first performance before an audience was graced by Thierry Mughler who has created all of Joey's looks throughout the years. He has been artistic advisor for this new show and created all the costume concepts for Joey. You can see his sketches in an earlier post!
