Twisted Vines
Pictured with Vine and Arias, Lynne Twist, the beautiful, beneficent, vivacous- grand dame of the Twist clan joined us again in New York last nite for her second visit to the show. She has been in ecuador for a year, now returning to San Francisco- the most divine city on earth. We love San Francisco and are happy because Lynne can come back again and again to the show now that she is state side, she has to catch up with Sherry who has been to the show at least half a dozen times- we love her too.

WELCOME Fauxnique
The incredible Fauxnique was in town this week to perform at The Howl Festival's Low Life, pictured above with Twist backstage in Thompson Square Park. She and Twist are mutual pals of the fabulous Mr. David in San Francisco, who has created amazing puppet couture for many of Twist's original productions over the years. Backstage after the show, Fauxnique and three very cute boys pay homage to the goddess, Ms. Arias.
Check out the LOVE
There is so much LOVE going around about Arias With a Twist, and here is your next installment, straight to the vein... John Topping's review of the show in Stage and Cinema.
Mr Topping feels that it is possibly the best show he's seen in his life!
"How good is it? Let’s see. The best show I’ve seen this year? Yes. The best show I’ve ever seen in my life? Maybe. Among the 10 best theatrical experiences I’ve ever had? Definitely. "
He's in love with the puppets and really seems to GET THEM. He understands that puppetry is EXPANSIVE and fantastic:
"This is comparatively more traditional puppetry, including human figures being manipulated with strings from above. But by no means is it confined to the string variety. To officially be deemed puppetry, it merely requires that something inanimate be brought to life by human agency."
and he dotes on the fact that this is "living and breathing" theater:
"There’s never any question that what you’re seeing are puppets. You see the strings, you see the poles, you catch glimpses of the puppeteers dressed head to toe in black. But it’s more than a puppet show and it’s more than a drag show. It is an explosion of imagination, doled out in gigantic portions of fun. "
And finally he lets you all know that
"it is not merely a good idea to go. You must."

Big Top Joey

The totally magical Danny Elfman and his guest Jennifer came to visit Joey last week. Danny and Joey last worked together on Big Top Pee Wee, where Joey was the incredible "Shim", the half man, half woman! Danny is a long standing puppet fan, having composed the music for Erik Sanko's marionette play, "The Fortune Teller" in the Dorothy B. Williams Theatre, which was a hit two seasons ago presented by our Dream Music Puppetry Program. Great to see you Danny and Jennifer!
